Portland, Oregon's Hawthorne neighborhood is full of old homes; all shapes and sizes; the renovation of our 1889 simple Victorian styled home was completed in the Spring of 2009. Step through our street level wonderful artistically hand crafted front entry gate into an oversized private patio. This property is ideal for guests who want easy access for the stroller and kids, or guests who can't manage stairs. The Hemingway Flat (named by teachers who love to read) is located in the lower portion of our home, which puts you steps away from all that is special about the great neighborhood of Hawthorne. Our Hemingway Flat is a street level daylight basement apartment-home and can sleep up to 7. Like many of our other properties it is fun and kinda funky. We are proud when we hear from our guests how immediately comfortable and at home they are. It feels very open and spacious, colorful and cozy. This Flat has great paint colors and a lot of light with southern full-sized windows. It has Chris' signature stained concrete floors and concrete counter tops in the kitchen, mixing modern ingenuity with old world charm. One bedroom has a queen and the other also has a queen and a single twin bed. WE ALSO ADDED a hide-a-bed sofa sleeper that can sleep 2. The bay window enhances the living area and show off Chris' creative use of space with a useful ledge that surrounds the edges of all the exterior walls which adds to the open visual appearance. Our open floor plan brings everyone together. This bright and inviting kitchen features concrete countertops and plenty of counter space to prepare a meal. With a refrigerator, oven and range, full set of pots and pans, cooking utensils, blender and toaster; you'll find everything you need to prepare your favorite comfort foods. The dining area can comfortably seat 6 at the table. Or take your meal outside on the patio. There is a roomy bathroom with a claw-foot tub with shower. Also, for your convenience there is a stackable washer and dryer on site, a color TV with cable, free High Speed Wireless Internet access, DVD player and fully equipped kitchen. All of our properties have pack-n-plays and books/toys for our smallest guests. Within the armoire, you will find extra bedding, toys, games and a library of VHS tapes for the kids. This property has radiant heating (concrete floor heat) and soon will be solar powered. This location is perfect for walking; it is blocks from several parks, shopping, restaurants, movies, breweries, coffee shops and tea houses. There is plenty of parking on the street, right in front of the unit. |
